The role and importance of Fashion in the world today is something that cannot be ignored but has over the years been emphasized in every facet of the human life.  It’s a means of self expression that allows us say something to the world about whom we are or who we'd like to be. The clothes we adorn ourselves with say something about us (intentional or not) to people we relate with and people we come across in our daily hustles.  Every person consciously or unconsciously nurtures an inner desire to look good. When we think fashion the next thing that comes to our minds sure is glamour and public admiration but Fashion is more a way of life and a reflection of inner beauty; not just glamour. We want fashion to fit our lives and not the other way round, we want fashion to flatter us in every way possible.

Fashion has evolved over the years across various cultures and national ethnicities. As our attitude and culture change, the definitions of fashion changes along with it and in comes a new trend of fashion.   Fashion in Nigeria has witnessed so many revolutions right from the time of its pre – colonial civilization. Nigeria a land so rich in culture and tradition would definitely see a proportional diversity in its fashion trends and traditions. Here, clothes perform a variety of functions depending on the occasion it is been worn to. From festivals to party wears, religious meetings to professional clothing, casuals or just a matter of self expression, one thing for sure is that....fashion is definitely in.

 Globally, fashion designers are inspired by a lot of things including ethnic differences. Permit me to say that in a designer’s world, our ethnic differences are celebrated.

Nigerian fashion is already making its mark in the international scene. The Nigerian fashion industry is indeed growing very rapidly with events such as Lagos fashion week, Port Harcourt fashion week and annual shows by fashion designers.

Fashion designing is an art, a career, a passion, a lifestyle. Now, fashion designers are celebrated for their creativity. With fashion designers of today, definitely creativity knows no bound.
