CARNIRIV, The Port Harcourt Carnival is an annual event that since 1988 has taken place on the streets of Port Harcourt. It showcases the rich cultural heritage and glamour of the Rivers People. This year's Carnival is scheduled to take place from December 15th - 21st.

This years edition of CARNIRIV is centered around creating awareness on global efforts towards preserving the environment from degradation with the festival theme been our environment, bedrock for sustainable development tagged the ""Green World Edition". The Rivers State Government says together it plans to plant 1,000 trees during this years' edition of the Carnival.

The Port Harcourt Carnival is a very colorful one and bears a certain uniqueness as it combines two carnivals, a purely cultural carnival and a contemporary Caribbean style carnival in one. Rivers State also known as the land of a thousand masquerades, with a variety of spoken languages and a very rich cultural heritage has a lot to showcase and as such the Carnival will feature events such as:

• International Aquatic Festival (Boat Regatta): This showcases the Rivers Marine Cultural Heritage.

• Garden City Freestyle Parade: This totally embodies glamour.

• Ekere: Also referred to as" rhythm of the tribes". This will feature cultural displays exhibited by the twenty three (23) Local Government Areas

• Carniriv Praise Jam: An inspirational colorful Praise Fiesta, it will feature various gospel artistes.

• BAMFEST: Black African Music Festival is a celebration of the Black African heritage which stretches beyond the continent of Africa. Black musicians from other continents are expected at the festival.
• Reggae-360: Put together for lovers of reggae.
• Kids Carnival: Kids will be treated to leisure, refreshment, entertainment and a whole load of fun.

The dances, masquerades, parades, fireworks,....its definitely going to be a colorful maze of fun.
